Skiermont Derby and Bayard Secure IPA Win in Microsoft Patent Infringement Case

Wilmington, Delaware (May 14, 2024) --Bayard, P.A. is pleased to announce that on Friday, May 10, 2024, a Delaware federal jury awarded its client, IPA Technologies, Inc., a $242 million verdict for Microsoft's infringement of IPA’s U.S. Patent No. 7,069,560 through its Cortana personal assistant software.  This is the third largest patent verdict in Delaware history.  The patent, which initially was developed by the research arm of Stanford University for the Siri personal assistant later acquired by Apple, was purchased by IPA in 2016. IPA was represented by Bayard, P.A.'s Stephen B. Brauerman, Emily L. Skaug, Nick Talarowski (paralegal) and Lori Fracek (paralegal), and the team from Skiermont Derby LLP in Dallas, Texas, led by Paul Skiermont, Steven Hartsell, Jamie Olin, Kevin Potere, Mieke Malmberg, Todd Martin, Daniel Jackson (paralegal), and Shelbye Harbour (paralegal).
