Curtis Bounds Named Fellow of American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers
Wilmington, Delaware– Bayard, P.A. is pleased to announce that Curtis P. Bounds has been named a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML). Comprised of the top matrimonial attorneys throughout the nation, AAML members are recognized as preeminent family law practitioners with the highest levels of knowledge, skill, and integrity. In order to be elected, each Fellow must successfully complete a rigorous selection process that includes interviews, examinations, and professional and judicial evaluations. Curtis is currently the only active attorney Fellow in Delaware. “It is an honor to be admitted in to this distinguished group of professionals, comprised of many of the top matrimonial lawyers in the U.S. Some of my mentors were Delaware Bar members of the Academy: Chief Judge Michael K. Newell, now a Fellow Member on the Bench, and Gerry Berkowitz and Fred Tarrant, who are no longer with us. They were all excellent attorneys, and I look to emulate them,” said Bounds. “I am proud to have the opportunity to represent the Academy’s values of excellence and professionalism in the Delaware Family Court. The Family Court protects Delaware families in divorce, separation from children and many other crises; and it also supports intact families through its reinforcement of an individual’s obligations to the family. Divorce is the modern law of marriage, and it is my responsibility as part of the process, to practice this law with integrity and a focus on the well-being of the family: adults and children alike.”
Curtis is a director at Bayard where he is the head of the Family Law practice. For almost three decades, Curtis has focused his practice on family law matters and practices in the Delaware Family Court in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties. He concentrates his experience in complex divorce and child custody cases. Curtis is a volunteer for the Office of the Child Advocate, representing children who are abused, neglected or dependent, and he is trained in Alternative Dispute Resolution as a mediator. He is also the Chair of the Delaware Family Law Commission, the only Legislative Commission in Delaware, and whose members are appointed by the Leaders of the Delaware State House and Senate.
