WILMINGTON, Del.—February 12, 2010 – Bayard, P.A., a Meritas® member law firm based in Wilmington Delaware, announced today that director Douglas M. Hershman, Chairman of the firm’s Executive and Associates Committees, has been named a Board Member of the Delaware Military Academy.
“The Delaware Military Academy’s programs develop honor, discipline and integrity in area students—characteristics important to their lives, and building blocks for the community” says Hershman. “I am honored to help the Academy work toward preparing students for leadership, and academic, personal and professional achievement.”
Hershman leads the firm’s diverse real estate practice, representing clients engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry throughout Delaware and its surrounding states. His practice includes representations of both buyers and sellers of commercial and residential real estate, as well as borrowers in financing transactions. Hershman also represents lenders making commercial real estate loans.
Hershman has been actively involved in the Delaware State Bar Association’s Real and Personal Property Section, having previously served as a Chairman and member of its Executive Committee. In 2007, Doug was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau of Delaware, we was elected to serve on the Executive Committee in 2008, and was named Vice Chairman in 2009. He also serves on the Board of the Wilmington Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO) and as a Life Director to the Home Builders Association of Delaware (HBA/DE).
Hershman has been consistently recognized as a leading attorney in the field of real estate law by Delaware Super Lawyers from 2007 through 2009 and by Chambers USA from 2006 through 2009. Additionally, he was listed among Lawdragon 3000 Leading Lawyers in America for 2006 and 2007, and was a finalist for Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Lawyers in America for 2007.
He graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.A., magna cum laude, in 1983, and earned his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in 1986.
